Tips to be a better Project Manager

  • Select the right people for your project team – Make sure that you select people who have the technical skills that are needed in order to complete the project successfully. Also try to select people that are good team players and are able to communicate effectively. Get the right people. Then no matter what all else you might do wrong after that, the people will save you. That’s what management is all about. – Tom DeMarco
  • Be a motivator – Your team is more likely to perform well if they are properly motivated to succeed.
  • Communicate – Clear, open communication between a project manager and his or her team is essential to achieving the objectives of a project. Each member of the team should be aware of how his or her work contributes to the project as a whole. The project manager needs to ensure that everyone knows exactly what their tasks and responsibilities are, and that clear deadlines are set for the completion of tasks.
  • Keep the client informed – As a project manager; you need to make sure that you provide your client with regular feedback on the progress of a project. You should also be aware that the client’s needs may change during the course of the project, and you should know how to deal with these changes efficiently and professionally.
